AGE: 5-6 Years old
BIO: Meet our sweet Honey, a 5-6 year old Yorkie who was dumped at the ACC by someone who had let a 5 pound tumor grow on her tiny little body.
Without a doubt, Honey has been suffering for a very long time at the hands of someone who has neglected her health for 5-6 years.
Honey was surrendered to the ACC where we stepped in to save her. The medical record by the shelter noted “Suspect Mammary Gland Tumor, ulcerated” – which means an open sore on an external surface of the body. When we finally saw it in person, we could not believe the “open sore” was half the size of the dog herself. The mass in between her legs is approximately 14 cm in diameter, ALMOST 5 POUNDS.
There was no way we were going to back down from helping this little girl, We took Honey to @sheepsheadbayveterinary where they delivered some good and bad news. Good News: Honey also has a mild Heart Murmur which is deemed not to pose an issue for her surgery. Bad news: She’s too anemic and cannot go into surgery with current vitals. A plan has been developed for her to be placed on several supportive medications to try and quickly elevate her levels and stop the off-and-on bleeding of the heavy tumor and get her ready for surgery. Honey is currently boarded with SBVG to provide optimal medical care. Honey is having a scheduled blood transfusion to rapidly replace the missing blood cells. An exploratory surgery will be done and she will have a biopsy to conclude whether the tumor is malignant or benign, Honey will be spayed and the tumor will be removed, and a dental (to help some dental disease) will be done all at once.
Please consider helping Rescue City provide any and all medical care Honey may need. The current estimate for her pre-op treatment, hospitalization/boarding, diagnostic tests, blood transfusion, tumor removal, biopsy, dental and spay is at $3,500.00 but that number is only growing with each necessity. With your life-saving donation, you can be a part of Honey’s new loving Rescue City family. Every dollar goes to making sure Honey’s life from here on out is as sweet as her name. Let’s show Honey what good humans can actually do, and what having a family really means.
You can contribute to Honey’s fundraiser here. Once she is cleared post surgery we hope the perfect family will come along to promise this girl the forever that she deserves.
HONEY UPDATE 🍯: Honey successfully had surgery to remove the tumor that was dragging from her little body. The bad news is that the tumor was malignant 😢. The good news is that there was no involvement of lymph notes which means our vet @sheepsheadbayveterinary was able to remove the entire cancerous mass. The plan now is to monitor and recheck her labs for anemia and in a few months do an abdominal sonogram to make sure there’s no metastasis.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Honey is recovering and getting some much deserved rest in her temporary foster home. Despite everything she’s been through she is a total sweetheart and loves to cuddle up to humans. This precious 5-6 year old Yorkie girl is ready to go into a foster or foster-to-adopt home ASAP, preferably one without other dogs where she can have the attention on her. She needs someone who is able to keep an eye out on her stitches and keep them clean. Please share Honey’s story to help us find her the perfect home. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Honey please submit an application below.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍯🐶❗️We still need help with Honey’s vet bill to cover the cost of her surgery and post-surgery care. If you can contribute any amount to our fundraiser please do so here. As little as $5 goes a long way for this deserving puppy. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and helped us change her fate!
