Xena was found by the NYPD rummaging through the trash looking for food. They were about to surrender her to the Brooklyn ACC when one of our supporters happened to be at the right place at the right time, saving her life. Thank you to Kathy for being a hero and stepping in to give this pup another chance and getting her to the vet right away for all necessary medications and treatments.

Xena has been extremely neglected and some of the people who have met her believe she was used as a bait/fighting dog. Both of her ears are ripped, infected and still bloody. She is very frail, emaciated, weighing only around 35 lbs with her entire spine and rib cage visible.

Despite what she has been through she has an incredible unbroken spirit. She’s super affectionate and has not an ounce of aggression. She loves to be held and truly believes she’s a lap dog! Xena gives tons of kisses and rolls over on her back the moment you kneel next to her. She’s also great with both cats and dogs.

Xena now has a shot at another life – however, we need your help! Please assist us with giving Xena the medical care she deserves before finding her happy and loving forever home. She’s currently medically boarded with Sheepshead Bay Veterinary Group with a few more tests to go, she will be treated for her wounds and ready for her foster home. Every extra day she spends with our vets, her boarding costs will increase.

I’m happy I found my forever family!

Rescue City Emergency Relief

This pandemic has led to a great deal of uncertainty for us all. Many are surprised to learn that COVID-19 affects animals as well– shelters have already seen a huge uptick in owner-surrendered pets. We have even had a puppy surrendered to us after only TWO WEEKS (read more below). We are continuing to do our best and help the dogs that need us the most in this uncertain time, but that also means we need YOU.
