The first video we ever saw of this sweet, tiny beagle petrified and cowering in corner of her cage broke our hearts. Caprese and her puppy (Basil) were both dumped at a Kentucky kill shelter. Aside from not being used to human love and touch, Caprese was also in immense pain do to a broken pelvis. She got the clear to get on transport to us in NYC where we knew we can provide her a better life.
The first couple days after arrival Caprese struggled to walk and her foster home had her on crate rest until we got a concrete treatment plan. As soon as she was seen by our vet @sheepsheadbayveterinary we realized that she’s been suffering through terrible pain and emergency surgery needed to be performed ASAP. This week Caprese had a successful Femeral Head and Neck Osteotomy (FHO) surgery. Do to the severity of the fracture she had a lot of breakage of the shattered bone, and Caprese may need another surgery to fully heal. She is currently medically boarded and going through laser therapy treatments to see if that can give her more progress on it’s own. We’re rooting for this resilient soul who’s deserving of such a bright future! Caprese is only 14 pounds and 1.5 years old, she’s going to make a lucky family very happy once she’s ready to soak up all their love.
